Large numbers on hand to usher in Cupids 400

Enthusiastic revelers were on hand New Years Eve to help kick off what will be a full year of celebrations commemorating Cupids 400. Organizers were pleased with the strong community and regional turnout, as people came from communities throughout the Northeast Avalon, drawn by the promise of a good time, live music, family celebrations and spectacular fireworks. With a well planned and efficient shuttle service in place, the event suffered none of the potential traffic snarls and congestion.

A Royal Visit marks Cupids 400

A Royal Visit marks Cupids 400To help launch a year of celebrations to mark Cupids 400, their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in historic Cupids on Tuesday, November 3rd. The Royal Couple greeted enthusiastic on the town's streets flowing in full colour with Cupids 400 commemorative banners and signs lining the roadways. Close by, they could not miss one of the largest Union Jacks in the world, a replica of the Union Jack flown at the 1910 Ter-Centenary celebrations.

Cupids400 Inc. Supports Provincial Artisans

On August 30, 2009 from 2-4 p.m., Cupids400 Inc and the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador will host the launch of a group exhibition of contemporary craft that reflects the 400th anniversary of Cupids in dynamic and diverse ways. The launch will take place at the Craft Council Art Gallery on Duckworth Street, St John’s, NL. The exhibit is aptly entitled, “400” and will run from August 30 – October 4, 2009.

Journalist - Photographer Dennis Flynn retraces John Guy’s “Voyage of the Indeavour”

Cupids400 Inc. announced today that Dennis Flynn, journalist and photographer from Colliers, Conception Bay, begins his voyage from Cupids, NL on August 14, 2009 to retrace the route of John Guy and 18 men as they sailed from Cupids on October 7, 1612 on a voyage of discovery to initiate friendly relations with the Beothuk and to establish a profitable fur trade.

Construction begins on Cupids Legacy Centre

Construction begins on Cupids Legacy CentreCupids400 Inc. announced today that construction has begun on the Cupids Legacy Centre. The $5 million building is being constructed on the site of the former United Church School on Seaforest Drive in Cupids and will include the creation of a new Exhibit Hall, a family history resource centre, the Cupids Cove Plantation Archaeology Lab, and a multipurpose community/arts centre.

Cupids400 Inc. announces financial support for the first of several regional projects for 2010 Celebrations

Mr. Roy Dawe, Chair of Cupids400 Inc., the non-profit organization responsible for organizing the 2010 Celebrations, will be at the Wooden Boat Museum in the Town of Winterton on Monday, July 6, 2009, at 10am to announce financial support for a cultural tourism project entitled the “Indeavour Story Exhibit” to be housed in the Wooden Boat Museum.

Cupids Legacy Centre Receives Additional $1.8M from ProvinceThe Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced that the Provincial Government will provide an additional $1.8 million to help fund the construction of the Cupids400 Legacy Centre, bringing the province’s total commitment to the Cupids celebration and related infrastructure to over $3.8 million.
